Russian Orlan ("Sea Eagle") DM Space suit glove (c. 1985-1988). SN: 0200080
Orlan (Орлан) is the Russian space suit used for EVA or spacewalks. This item consists of a full three-part glove assembly: a) rubber inner pressure bladder; b) internal load-bearing glove assembly; and c) outer thermal micrometeoroid garment (TMG) / gauntlet. The tough nylon outer gauntlet (the thermal micrometeoroid garment - TMG) is all that is visible externally. It is designed to insulate the astronaut's hands and protect from solar radiation, micrometeoroids, and orbital debris. The right hand glove is unique in having a pressure table printed on the outer gauntlet. The time/pressure table indicates that suit pressure could be maintained in the vacuum of space for over 5 hours.
The Orlan-DM suit was manufactured by the NPP Zvezda (НПП Звезда) from 1985-1988, and was used on both Salyut-7 and Mir Space Station for extra-vehicular activity (EVA).
This glove was not flown. It was, however, used by cosmonauts for neutral buoyancy training in the Hydrolab at Yuri A. Gagarin State Scientific Research-and-Testing Cosmonaut Training Center (GCTC) in Star City, Moscow.
